Lighting directions

Use the foil as a wick and light one of the corners. The foil is environmentally friendly. At the same time, it helps you avoid the unpleasant odors on your hands and clothes.

Good advice for lighting a fire in a wood-burning stove: 

  • Use clean and dry wood.
  • Make sure that there is ample ventilation.
  • Light little by little.
  • Go outside and check the smoke.
  • Never use any kind of liquid when lighting a fire.

The problem can be that you light with trash or that the fire does not get enough air, when you light. Check that the wood-burning stove’s stones are clean and without soot. According to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), incomplete combustion causes air pollution.

Wet wood will lower the efficiency degree of the burning sequence, and they may also cause damage to the energy stones. Moreover, wet wood may cause tarry soot. Wet logs and firewood will blacken the burning chamber and doors. Also, wet firewood will result in more smoke and lower energy value.

Never use driftwood because of its high contents of salt and hence it will have a damaging influence on both stove and smokestack.

Creosoted wood and chipboard emit toxic and fumes and can therefore not be used as firewood.

Good advice for lighting the barbeque:

Fill up the chimney starter with charcoals, place it on top of 2-3 Quickfire firestarter sachets and light them. After app. 25 minutes, the charcoal will be ready. When they are covered by a gray layer of ash, you spread them out in an even layer over the charcoal grill if you intend to barbeque by using the direct roasting method. Avoid using lighter fluids as this may give off smells and aftertaste to the meat.
